What are your opening times?
As Vanilla Bean Bakery is a home-based business, I can often work irregular hours. We close Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. As it is a home-based business consultations are by appointment only, and I am unable to facilitate those that arrive unannounced.
Can I come and see you to order my cake?
Unfortunately we do not offer consultations for celebration cakes. We can discuss your design requirements over the phone or via email. Facebook or email is often the best way to contact us as in the kitchen we cannot always answer the phone.
Can I arrange a tasting session? Do you provide samples?
In order to keep our prices competitive we are unable to provide samples for celebration cakes. However, we make hundreds of cakes a year and always have positive feedback on the taste of our cakes. An we
How much can I expect to pay for a cake?
All of our cakes are designed to suit your special occasion, therefore the price will vary according to the level of work, cake size and time required to create the design. If you are able to show us the style of cake you like we can give you an idea of cost. Please check out our price guides for each type of cake we do under the “what we do” tab and some of our cakes you can go ahead and buy directly from our Online Shop
How do I place my order?
For Wedding Cakes it is best to book a Free Consultation if possible. For custom made cakes very often when I am working on cakes in the kitchen I cannot answer the phone, so often the best and quickest way to order is through email or through the Facebook page or through the Contact Us form on this site. Please give a much detail about what you are looking for as possible. Do send us a picture if you have a particular idea in mind. Many of our cakes you can just order now through our Online Shop

I’ve seen another cake maker’s cake that I really like. Can you make something similar?
As stated above do send a picture of what you have in mind, but we do not like to exactly copy another cake design, preferring to design a cake especially for you. As all cakes and decorations are handmade we cannot guarantee that even copies of our own designs will be exactly the same as the original
How far in advance should I book my cake?
As soon as you can. Orders are on a first come, first serve basis and have limited availability.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
We do not require a deposit on our celebration cakes, they are paid for in cash or by card on collection. Many of our cakes can now be bought and paid for in our Online Shop. And can be collected at our studio. Wedding cakes require a €50 deposit to secure the date and this can be paid here. Please visit our Weddings page for information about ordering wedding cakes.
How do I pay?
We accept major credit and debit cards, BACS transfer, cash and Paypal. Please note we no longer accept payments by cheque. All payments must be cleared before collection/delivery. We can process card payments here at the studio but not over the phone.
I’ve left my cake to the last minute. Is there any chance you can squeeze my order in?
Generally we are booked up well in advance and as we make everything to order we cannot take last minute orders. But please contact us and if we can fit you in we will. Everything is made to order and I do not have ready made cakes available or cannot facilitate orders for the same or next day.
Do you make Vegan/Gluten Free/Dairy Free/Nut free?
No unfortunately our cakes may contain butter, wheat flour, eggs and we are unable to substitute these ingredients. Our cakes may also contain nuts and are made in an environment that handles nuts and soya. We cannot guarantee that the cakes will not contain traces of these elements due to the nature of our production. We accept no liability for a customer suffering an allergic reaction from consuming our cakes.
Cakes decorated with fresh flowers?
If your cake design requires fresh flowers, they are to be supplied by your florist. Please note some flowers are not suitable for use as cake decoration. Ask your florist for details regarding toxicity. We cannot be liable for any contamination to our food products that may arise from their misuse.
Cakes decorated with non-edible materials
Non-edible materials are used as decoration in some of our designs. Please note that jewels and accessories such as brooches, ribbons, silk flowers, diamantes, beads, feathers, etc. that are used to decorate some of our cakes are not edible and must be removed from your cake before serving. We accept no responsibility for any physical harm that may arise from the use of these accessories.
What’s the best way to transport my cake once I collect it?
Keep the cake box flat, the best place is always the front passenger floor or in the boot of your car and transport home or to your venue as soon as possible. Avoid putting it on a seat or in some-one’s lap, as it can cause the cake to slope during transportation. We will not be liable for any damage to the cake once it has left our bakery.
Do you do deliveries?
No, all celebration cake must be collected. We only deliver wedding cakes, details are on the Weddings page
How do I store my cake if I collect it the day before my party?
If it is a buttercream cake it is best keep it in the fridge, in its box if possible overnight and take it out the about 2 hours before the party. If it is a fondant covered cake Do not store your cake in a fridge. Leave your cake covered in its box in a cool dark dust-free room away from direct sunlight and heat and it will be fine the next day.
